Elder Don W. Jenerette

Elder Don W. Jenerette, 97, of Hampton, peacefully went home to be with his heavenly Father Sunday, July 8, 2011, at the Riverside Rehabilitation Center.

Born July 17, 1914, in Horry County, SC, he was the son of the late Mary Frances (Johnson) Jenerette and the late Lorenzo Goff. His wife, Annie Lewis Jenerette, whom he married in 1935, preceded him in death in August 1967.

From their union survives: eight children, Charles and Ethel Jenerette, of Reading, PA, Don Jenerette, of Newport News, Rev. Sarah Drew, Frances Jenerette, Henry Jenerette all of Hampton, Darfus Jenerette, of Newark, NJ., Ernest Jenerette, of Norristown, PA, and Wanda Linwood, of Fairbluff, NC; one adopted son, Bishop Willie Carter, of Newport News; four sisters, Beatrice Bowen, of Portsmouth, Luester Davis and Bernice Beaty, both of Bayboro, SC, and Betty Moody, of Newark, NJ; 43 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Don completed his schooling in 1932 at the Lewis School in Bayboro, SC, and retired from the Newport News School Board in 1980.

A home-going celebration will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Dunamis Christian Center, 6148 Jefferson Ave., Newport News, VA., with Bishop Michael Witt, Officiating.  Viewing will be held noon to 6 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th St. Newport News, VA.  The Interment will be held at Silver Star Cemetery, Bayboro, SC.

The final care of our loved one has been entrusted to the staff of Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.
